October 3 - The long bus ride / Dijon
Our time in Switzerland had come to an end as we checked out of our Geneva hotel at 8:30am this morning and boarded the bus, headed for CHALON-SUR SAÔNE where our ship, the AMA Cello was waiting for us. This was a day-long event as we drove for nearly two hours before taking a break for twenty minutes to stretch our legs. It was another hour and a half before we reached the French town of Dijon. Here we had a 45 minute walking tour of the medieval town and then had time for lunch. Back on board the bus around 3pm for another hour and change before finally arriving at the ship. Check in was smooth and quick and we were soon settled in stateroom #216. We had expected to meet our friends John & Rene who had organized the group adventure (they did not book the pre-extension in Geneva). However when we got to the ship we got a message from Rene that there had been airline complications and they were stuck in London and were hoping to be to the ship around 9pm. We soon went to the lounge for the welcome reception, the mandatory safety briefing (made especially entertaining by our wonderful captain!), and a preview of tomorrow - our first day of the cruise. We went to dinner with Steve and Mary and had a wonderful time with a delicious meal. As we left the dining area we saw some luggage being brought on board and we asked our program director Simon if he knew the status of our friends John & Rene. He gave us the good news that they literally had just got on board. We turned around and there they were......hugs all the way around! And we're off!
